5 Ways to Increase Emotional Connection

by | Oct 2, 2022

Creating an emotional connection with someone can improve our feeling of self-worth and self-esteem. A secure connection with someone can give us the feeling of safety.

Each person has a distinct emotional connection, but there are some commonalities as it is a combination of personal feelings that are shared and establish a connection between two individuals. These personal emotions may be love, pleasure, contentment, or alternatively anger, exasperation, or sorrow.

Creating a strong, positive emotional bond with someone is critical if you want your relationship to last a long time. Here are some pointers to help you get started.

1. Be your authentic self

When you are being your truest self with someone the connection you both feel will be genuine even if your interests differ. Your connection will be based on your authentic personality and your passions in life rather then something you are pretending to be. Being real with the other person will also encourage them to feel secure in themselves and share their truest self with you. It will naturally create a strong connection and you both can accept each other for who you are.

2. Be supportive

Giving support to a friend or partner is really important as it is creating a trust with you and knowing that you can be relied in when it’s needed most. Being supportive is not just about standing by them when you both agree but also it is when you can comfortably tell them when they are wrong in a safe considerate way. Being critical or talking negatively behind their back will only weaken your bond and may even break their trust.

3. Talk about their ambitions

Paying attention and asking follow-up questions to a friend or partners when they are sharing their interests will encourage them to open up with you. When you understand their dreams and ambitions will allow you to find out if they align with your dreams and ambitions. When you have things in common the connection will naturally get stronger and more fulfilling.

4. Spend quality time together

When you have set up a time with the person, making this quality time means being present in the moment. Focusing your full attention on that person will help to build a deeper connection and make the most of the time you have together each time you’re with them. Also, using information you have listened to in the past to create a specific activity for you to do together will show them you truly enjoy their company.

5. Show your sense of humour

Humour is a great way of breaking the ice with someone as it can create an emotion and mental attraction to being with you. Telling jokes may not come naturally to some of us but having a sense of humour doesn’t just mean telling jokes but can mean telling story or sharing something about yourself that might be a bit deeper but in a light-hearted way. Seeing the lighter side to life and our experiences. When you can make someone laugh, their connection to you can grow stronger.
